We recently added a blog about another tragic case of an adult who admitted to shaking a baby out of frustration.  Check out the blog post at the shakenbabysyndromeblog.com

This story contains many elements of interest to those who try to prevent SBS and those who try to do their part to correct the injustice done to survivors of SBS and families left behind after the death of a baby.  There is reported evidence of prior injury to the baby (e.g rib injury).  There is the reported classic trigger of frustration (e.g. father unemployed).  There is reported evidence of delay in seeking medical treatment (e.g the non-offending mother was the one who called 911 when she got home from work).  The tragic story ends with the father in jail for 35 years.  The mother was deported to her native country.  The baby is dead.  Stories like these should be fully investigated so that the SBS community can learn from them and avoid them in the future.  Was the child seen by any mandated reporter who should have suspected the child was being abused or neglected?  If so, did that person report the suspected abuse?  Did CPS investigate any report?  Was the family offered services?  Did they accept or decline the services?
