In Alabama, Joyce and Lonnell Sims remain in jail for the severe beating of a toddler in their foster home. The couple faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated child abuse. The case will be heard in Conecuh County District Court. Their victim has suffered permanent brain damage as a result of the non-accidental abusive head trauma.

The county had placed eight foster children with this couple that lived in a mobile home, at the time they were arrested there were four children in their care. The Conecuh County foster care program is under investigation. A spokesperson for the Alabama Department of Human Resources reportedly admitted that the maximum number of children that may be placed in a home is six children, however exceptions may be made.
