In Alabama, Marcus Smith and Quanisha Smith are charged with capital murder in connection with the death of Evan K. Byrdsong. Evan was four years old at the time of his death. His death was ruled a homicide. The cause was determined to be the result of abuse and neglect. News stories report Evan was unresponsive upon arrival to Children’s Hospital on August 29. He was pronounced dead. Mr. and Mrs. Smith are currently held in the Jefferson County Jail.
