In Canada, Joshua Slessor, is facing criminal charges for child abuse of his twin sons. He pled guilty for one charge of criminal negligence and two counts of failing to provide the necessities of life by harming their health and endangering their lives permanently. Sentencing will take place January 12, 2009. The twin boys were only 43 days old when they sustained the life threatening injuries consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome. At the time the babies were injured, healthcare providers discovered that there was more than one episode of child abuse prior to the last incident as there were injuries in different phases of healing.
The boys are no longer in the care of Stephanie and Joshua Slessor. Mr. Slessor admits that he did not tell his wife that he injured the babies. At the time of the crime, Mr. Slessor would not drive his wife and babies to seek medical attention when it appeared that the children needed to see a doctor. His wife did not have a driver’s license at the time. She had a learners permit only. She called her mother in-law to take her and the children to the hospital.
