In Long Beach, California, Neely Dinkins is identified as the hit-and-run driver that killed a one-year-old girl and injured her two-year-old brother. The tragedy unfolded at the intersection of 10th street and Redondo Avenue. The children were passengers in a wagon on a walk with their parents when Mr. Dinkins struck the wagon with his Dodge Durango. News stories report that after the Durango struck the children in the wagon Mr. Dinkins continued to drive and drag the wagon several hundred feet. Both victims were trapped under the vehicle. Mr. Dinkins stopped and the wagon and the two-year-old fell away from the vehicle. Then he accelerated again, dragging the one-year-old for about a mile. Mr. Dinkins stopped again. Witnesses followed him and police were able to arrest him near the scene where he stopped with the one-year-old. The one-year-old girl was pronounced at the scene. The two-year-old boy was transported to hospital. Witnesses to this tragedy are asked to call detectives as soon as possible, ask for Detectives Sirilo Garcia or David Lauro at (562) 570-7355.
