In North Carolina, Jeremiah Ray Swafford has died. His mother, Kathy Lynn Swafford, and his step father, Dwight Stacy Justice, face felony murder and felony intentional child abuse charges. Both defendants remain in custody. The family wants answers. They reported their concerns for child abuse to the sheriff’s office and to the Department of Social Services on more than one occasion. Family members report that they saw evidence of abuse and reported it to officials. Some news stories report that the family feared for the child’s life.
