In Shasta County, the criminal trial of Jimmy Lee Shasteen ended with a hung jury. Mr. Shasteen was arrested in April 2008 for charges related to child cruelty causing great bodily harm; after his 4-month-old infant daughter was taken emergently to Mercy Medical Center for symptoms related to a head injury and multiple fractured bones. The infant was transferred to University of California at Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for critical care. The mother was not charged in the case.  The infant was released to relatives.
