In Texas, Steve and Bettie Ramirez were convicted of murder for the 2007 starvation death of their eight year-old adopted daughter, Crystal. They were also tried and convicted for the wounds the deceased child’s sibling sustained during their abusive stay with the Ramirez couple. News stories report that Crystal was stealing food from classmates and eating out of garbage cans before she died. The Ramirez couple faces possible sentencing to life in prison.
