Jessica's Law was intended to help keep track of registered sex offenders.  Unfortunately, in some situations, it's making the situation worse.  The San Francisco Chronicle reported recently that at least 2300 registered sex offenders are homeless because they are unable to find housing outside the 1/2 mile restriction - meaning they cannot find any housing which is at least 1/2 mile away from a school.  This causes registered sex offenders to become homeless - in fact, the article showed a photograph of someone reportedly sleeping in his car because he cannot sleep in his home.  The article raises a lot of good questions about how this aspect of the law is counter-productive for the safety of children.
