Mild and moderate abusive head trauma symptoms in children

The following signs and symptoms of mild to moderate abusive head trauma (shaken baby syndrome) may be mistaken for other childhood illnesses by parents and healthcare providers. Consider that the following symptoms may also be indicative of abusive head trauma when caring for a baby or young child that appears to have a sudden change in physical status:  Drowsiness, excessive crying, facial bruising, failure to thrive, feeding difficulties, increased head size, increased or decreased muscle tone, lethargy, and vomiting.
