In Newark, Sonya Ellis, 27 year-old and Jamie Guinyard, 28 year-old were charged with endangering the welfare of a child. These two individuals brought their 4-month-old baby girl to a city hospital with severe injuries to the head, eyes and face. The medical staff thought the injuries were not consistent with the parent’s story that the baby fell off of a bed.
The Department of Youth and Family Services took custody of the infant and her 4 year-old sibling. The infant is still hospitalized.
Abusers often do not admit that they abuse. Stories that don’t match the child’s developmental level and type of injuries are highly consistent with child abuse and should be reported to the child protective service in your area.
