In California, Ronald Simon is held in connection with the death of five-year-old, Alyssa Hendricks. He was allegedly driving under the influence when he caused the collision that killed her. Mr. Simon is held in the Morongo Basin Jail in Joshua Tree. He is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence causing injury with an allegation of great bodily harm. He is also charged with leaving the scene of an accident. He was on probation for a misdemeanor DUI offense that happened earlier this year.
According to news stories, Judge David Mazurak said Simon was a danger to the community, entered a plea of not guilty for the defendant and appointed him a public defender. Mr. Simon’s bail is set at one million dollars.
Alyssa was a restrained passenger in the rear passenger location of her family car when Simons plowed in to it. Alyssa and her family were on their way to the store to buy ice cream when the tragedy happened. Her father Cameron Hendricks was also severely injured.
Immediately after the accident, Alyssa was transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center and then life-flight transferred to Riverside County Regional Medical Center where she passed away. Cameron Hendricks was the driver and he remains hospitalized at Desert Regional Medical Center.
