Jason D. Strickland stands trial in child abuse case of Haleigh Poutre.

In Massachusetts, Jason D. Strickland is standing trial for the traumatic brain injury child abuse case of Haleigh Poutre. On November 6, 2008, expert witness, Dr. Richard Hicks testified in the trial and stated Haleigh Poutre’s head injury was similar to that which may be sustained in a high speed car crash. Mr. Strickland is facing charges of assault and battery on a child with substantial bodily injury. The crime occurred on September 10th & 11th of 2005. Mr. Strickland’s wife and co-conspirator is deceased.

Haleigh remains in custody of the state Department of Children and Families. She currently receives treatment at Boston Rehabilitation Hospital. Haliegh’s sister, Samantha Poutre, witnessed the abuse and is expected to provide testimony that she saw Mr. Strickland throw Haleigh down the stairs as her mother watched.

Jason Strickland’s deceased wife, Holli Strickland, died days after the incident in a murder-suicide by her grandmother, Constance Young.
