In Contra Costa, the coroner reports that 15 year-old Jazzmin Davis died from malnutrition and child abuse. Her body was found to have multiple scars from wounds caused by child abuse. News stories report that Jazzmin stood 5’ 7” tall and weighed only 78 lbs. when she passed away. Investigators found the dead teenager on September 2, 2008 in the home of Shameeka Davis, Jazzmin’s aunt and legal guardian. Shameeka Davis has pleaded not guilty to murder and child abuse charges. The evidence suggests that Jazzmin’s condition was caused from burning, beating and periods of starvation.
Jazzmin Davis should have weighed in at approximately 135 lbs (+/- 10 lbs.). Her weight at the time of her death showed significant malnutrition.
