The Keane Law Firm was referred and handled a case of a tourist severely injured in a taxicab in San Francisco, California, on the way to San Francisco International Airport. The tourist was transferred after the taxi accident to San Francisco General Hospital, where the tourist suffered an unexpected cardiac arrest. It was unclear why the arrest occurred, but through forensic document examination review and intensive review of medication records, it was determined that the patient was administered an excessive dose of medication. While the medication administration records for the dose of medication in question were allegedly lost or destroyed, The Keane Law Firm's examination of the computerized contolled substances log - when compared to the physician orders and progress notes - was able to confirm that the patient received twice the dose of ordered medication - which was a substantial factor in causing the cardiac arrest. The tourist suffered cardiac arrest, brain damage and wrongful death. The Keane Law Firm successfully settled this wrongful death case, and the medical malpractice portion of the recovery was one of the largest settlements ever against the City and County of San Francisco.
