In Michigan, Amber McIntyre-Roden, 23-year-old, was sentenced for the Shaken Baby death of her two-month old daughter Tamiah. She was sentenced to prison to serve an 18 – 50 year sentence. Tamiah died on July 26th at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Healthcare providers reported the child abuse to authorities. News stories report that Tamiah died from blunt-trauma to the head. Court records reveal that Ms. McIntyre-Roden has previous convictions for domestic violence, prostitution and cocaine possession.
Abusive parents or caregivers as have risk factors such as substance abuse, low self-esteem, mental or physical disability, depression, history of abuse as a child, poor coping skills, poor impulse control, history of violent behavior or history of being raised in a group setting with no positive parental role.
All children are potential victims of child abuse, but some factors increase the risk for a child to be abused.
