In Provo, Daniella Ruiz was convicted of second-degree child abuse homicide for the death of Brandon Zamora in January 2006. Brandon Zamora was five-months-old when he died. News stories report that Ms. Ruiz stated the child was brought to her asleep and later was pale and unresponsive. The infant boy was taken emergently to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Primary Children’s Medical Center.

Ms. Ruiz will be sentenced on January 13, 2009. Her defense attorney Shelden Carter intends to appeal this case.

Depending on the type of Shaken Baby Syndrome head injury pattern, the victim’s loss of consciousness may unfold quickly or slowly. The timeline for this case would determine what suspects deserve investigation.
