Christopher Brian Fisher, 26 year-old of Sioux Falls, faces first degree murder charges for the death of a 16-month-old boy from Shaken Baby Syndrome. The injured boy was found by police at 4915 West 14th Street. Sadly, police were not able to save the boy's life. News stories report that Mr. Fisher had just moved in with his girlfriend. He is also on parole for third-degree burglary, first-degree robbery and damage to property.
Parents and caregivers with histories of alcohol and substance abuse, criminal history, domestic violence, sexual promiscuity, poverty and mental health disturbances feature prominently in many child abuse cases. While women are more likely and more frequently the perpetrators of child abuse, men abuse more severely and are more likely to be sexual abusers. So while women abuse more frequently and are generally younger in age than males; male abusers, in particular non-biological males, are more often responsible for the severe child abuse outcomes in households.
