In Utah, Kami Kay Tollefson faced three charges of second-degree felony child abuse in 3rd District Court. According to news stories, Ms. Tollefson reportedly operated an unlicensed home day care on W. Bullion Street. Since June 2008, there have been three incidents of suspected child abuse involving children ages 13, 16 and 18 months. The first suspected incident involved a traumatic life-threatening abdominal injury to a child that required immediate surgery. The second incident involved a child sustaining injuries consistent with attempted suffocation or strangulation. The third incident involved a child that suffered injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
