In California, Jose Maurice Castenada faces sentencing in connection with the child abuse death of two-year-old Cesar Razo in 2005.  Mr. Castenada was the boyfriend to the deceased child’s mother at the time of the child’s death. News stories report that Mr. Castenada was found guilty of the child’s fatal beating and torture by jury. Jurors found that Mr. Castenada tortured Cesar Razo with cable wires, belts, hangers and a yellow cord and caused great bodily injury and death in the process. Mr. Castenada is convicted of assault on a child with force, great bodily injury, death, torture and felony child abuse.  

During the trial, Mr. Castenada was also found guilty of abusing the deceased child’s older sibling, a five-year-old girl.  

Sadly, Cesar Razo died from his injuries on June 25, 2005. By way of history, after 10 months of being tortured by Mr. Castenada, the child reportedly died with 304 injuries on is 34” tall body. He suffered lacerations to his liver and penis.  

Because the deceased child’s mother failed to protect him from the abuser, she pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and child abuse.
