In Canton, Ohio, Amanda Wood was sentenced to prison for kidnapping and four counts of endangering children. Ms. Wood is 31 years-old and will begin her five year sentence. She has been in jail through these proceedings. Prosecutors say that Ms. Wood and her husband Daniel Wood abused five year-old Zaneek McClanahan after he was placed in their care by the Tuscarawas County authorities. Ms. Wood is the abused child’s aunt. Zaneek suffered severe dehydration, kidney failure, loss of vision, scars and bruises at the hands of his abusers. Zaneek was a special needs child. There is some question as to whether this was an appropriate placement for him, did Tuscarawas County child protection services put him in harms way also by placing him with the abusers?
