In Florida, snake owners Jaren Ashley Hare and Charles Jason Darnell are charged in connection with the python-strangulation death of two-year-old Shaiunna Hare. The two face charges including third-degree murder, manslaughter and child abuse. The tragedy unfolded July 1, 2009 when the pet python escaped its cage and killed Shaiunna while she was sleeping in her bed. The snake was a Burmese albino python. Allegedly, the python owners did not have a permit to own the snake and the animal was not properly secured.
