In Indiana, Jaime Leigh Erickson is charged with neglect in the death of her daughter Savannah Fullgraf. Savannah was 17-months old at the time of her death. News stories report she was a victim of extreme abuse. At the time of her death she had a severe burn on one hand, a fractured nose with broken facial bones and a severely torn anus.
Ms. Erickson told investigators that her child had been in the care of a boyfriend for about a month while she worked. A neighbor told police she heard concerning noises and a women’s voice saying, “she’s not breathing, she’s not responsive.” The neighbor knocked on the door and a man answered telling her that everything is okay and slammed the door.
The child was taken emergently to Saint Margaret Mercy Hospital and then airlifted to University of Chicago Hospital were she died on October 5th at 5:00 in the morning.
