In Kansas, Katie Cornejo faces charges of first-degree murder for the February 2008 death of her 2 ½ year-old step-daughter, Daytona Robertson. Daytona died from a severe head injury that she sustained while with Ms. Cornejo. Testimony from Cornejo’s former day-care provider, Jessica Cummings, was provided at trial. Ms. Cummings had been previously sentenced to 32 months in prison for the death of Ms. Cornego’s biological daughter while under her care in a separate case.
