In Luzerne County, Lamont Cherry, 35 years-old of Carlisle St. located in Wilkes-Barre, remains jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s infant daughter, Zalayia McCloe. An autopsy is scheduled to take place today at the Lehigh Valley Medical Center. Allegedly, Mr. Cherry was watching Zalayia in her mother’s absence when the she sustained a severe skull fracture and brain damage. Zalayia was airlifted to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. She died Sunday morning. Mr. Cherry faces charges including simple assault, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person.
