In Missouri, Joseph Matthew Schoolfield died from child abuse at the hands of Valerie Schoolfield and Scott Endicott. Tragically, Joseph was subjected to repeated episodes of abuse during his short three year life. His mother, Valerie Schoolfield, had previous contact with social services in the past due to allegations of child abuse. Joseph was removed from her custody and returned back to his mother in October 2007. In Illinois, Scott Endicott had prior contact with Joseph and was a known child abuser. He was responsible for prior injuries to the child. There was a no-contact order in place at the time of Joseph’s death.
According to news stories, Joseph was taken emergently to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese on January 21 and airlifted to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. He died on January 24, 2009. Child abusers, Schoolfield and Endicott, are currently in jail and charged with first-degree murder charges.
