In Tavares, the death of a young child named Blake Rupee is being investigated as a homicide. Allegedly, his family had been in contact with the state child protection agency prior to his death for suspected child abuse. The autopsy showed his injuries were consistent with child abuse. Blake lived with his mother Emmalee Fore, 21-year-old, in an apartment on Osceola Avenue. Rescue personnel arrived to their apartment for a call that the child was not breathing. He was initially taken to Florida Hospital and then transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children where he died. News stories report that Blake was in the care of someone else, not his mother, at the time the rescue personnel responded. Since his death, his sibling has been placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.
