In Texas, Irma Berrera is charged with a second-degree felony in connection with the dog attack death of her infant grandson, Izaiah Gregory Cox. Ms. Berrera was also injured in the attack that killed her grandson. News stories report she allegedly left Izaiah alone with the dogs when she went to heat up a bottle in a different room. She attempted to rescue Izaiah when she found the dogs were attacking him. Allegedly, the dogs had a history of attacking another grandchild previously. The grandchild required hospitalization for wound repair. A neighbor also reported concern about the dogs and their behavior weeks before that attack that killed Izaiah. It is not clear whether the parents of Izaiah Cox are charged in this case with knowingly leaving the child in an unsafe environment.
