In Washington, Danyl Herringshaw was sentenced to prison in connection with the permanent brain injuries his baby girl received while in his care. A Thurston County judge sentenced Mr. Herringshaw to more than 14 years in prison. News stories report that his infant daughter Lindsey Herringshaw is severely disabled and suffers from seizures and developmental delays due to the brain injuries and fractured skull she sustained while in the care of her father when she was three months old. She suffers significant physical and cognitive impairment due to her brain injury and requires 24-hour care. Lindsey is not able to sit up or crawl and has vision problems.

By way of history, Lindsey was admitted to Providence St. Peter Hospital with a skull fracture, rib fracture and other fractures in various stages of healing. She had breathing difficulties associated with her trauma. Lindsey was transferred to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma. Allegedly, Danyl Herringshaw reported the baby would not stop crying and he “snapped”. Mr. Herringshaw also admits to reading information about shaken baby syndrome prior to his second assault on the baby.

Lindsey’s mother, Kati Bergman, was also sentenced in the case for a failure to report the abuse. Both Bergman and Herringshaw are currently barred from contact with Lindsey. Lindsey is in the care and custody of her step-great aunt and uncle.
